Meet Michelle

Michelle Dawson is a sitting Lee’s Summit R7 Board of Education member elected in April 2025. She and her husband have been proud residents of Lee’s Summit for the past 20 years, raising their two middle school children in a district they deeply trust and value. Their winters are often spent cheering on their kids at school archery tournaments—many of which are hosted right here in Lee’s Summit schools. Michelle’s involvement in the community includes participating in the Parent Academy in 2024, further deepening her understanding of district operations and the needs of students and families.

Originally from western New York, Michelle’s professional journey brought her to Lee’s Summit to manage domestic and international engineering projects. Over the years, she expanded her role in the community by serving as an operations project manager for a local nonprofit organization. She currently works as a project assistant at her local church, blending her professional expertise with her commitment to service.

As a parent, Michelle is grateful for the exceptional education her children receive in the Lee’s Summit R7 schools. The district’s dedicated teachers, diverse extracurricular activities, and robust high school career programs have exceeded her family’s expectations. Public education has provided her children with resources and opportunities that enrich their lives and prepare them for a successful future.

Michelle is working for the Board of Education to ensure that Lee’s Summit continues to be a district where every child can thrive. She brings her project management experience to the table, advocating for a collaborative, transparent board that prioritizes student success, understands district operations’ complexities, and responsibly manages resources. She is passionate about ensuring that every student—especially those facing physical, developmental, academic, or mental health challenges—has the opportunity to succeed.

Michelle Dawson humbly asks for your continued support as she develops her role on the Board of Education. Together, we can continue to build a district that supports and inspires all students.
